Congratulations to our SIS-PIK scholars who have returned victorious from the World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions, held at Yale University. This is the final round of the 2023 season, and only the ‘best of the best’ are invited to compete in debate, writing, and knowledge. For all their hard work, our fourteen scholars brought home 3 trophies, 60 gold medals, and 30 silver medals, and several alpacas!

On Tuesday, November 7th, our students experienced our fourth ‘SIS Peak Day’. Representatives from the UK’s top ‘Ivy League’ Russell Group Universities provided a fair for Grades 10-12, whilst students were provided with more information on IBDP Group 4, BTEC Creative Media and Sports subjects, and our collaborative science project presentation. Our Grade 10 students further explored the pathways of IBDP and BTEC to become better informed about their upcoming educational choices.

Our third SIS Peak day was held on Monday, October 30th. It consisted of the BMI/THE Global University Fair for our Senior High students from Grades 10-12, an IBDP Group 3 and BTEC Applied Sciences subject fair, and also our CAS Fair. Grade 10 students had a chance to further explore the pathways of IBDP and BTEC to become better informed about their upcoming educational choices.

From October 17th until 22nd, Grade 11 and 12 students went on a Learning Journey trip to Labuan Bajo, where they completed their CAS project, Collaborative Sciences Group 4 project, and BTEC EE assessment. As the purpose of the trip was to gain experience and assist others, our students shared their knowledge with the local elementary students of SDK Pusut, and raised funds to donate two bookshelves for their school library. They also had fun exploring different neighbouring islands while collecting data for their project.

The theme for our Grade 7-10 High School Learning Journey this academic year was “Indonesia STEAM Exploration for Global Achievements”, focusing on learning firsthand about the development of Science, Technology, the Arts (Culture), Engineering and Mathematics in Indonesia from pre-independence years to the present day. It was a great opportunity for students and teachers to explore the richness of Indonesian culture and natural resources and what it can offer to the world.
During this programme, students had the opportunity to visit educational places such as temples, museums and factories, and also visited fun locations such as zoos and theme parks. Our hope with the Learning Journey programme is for our students to be aware of the potential within Indonesia, and within themselves, to have the determination to contribute in global achievements.

The Preschool Learning Journey was indeed an exciting and immersive experience for all students. Our K1 and K2 students had a chance to visit the Largest Indoor Aquarium in Indonesia - Jakarta Aquarium. They marvelled at sea creatures, touched exotic reptiles, and enjoyed a delightful otter show. While the Kindergarten students were exploring, our Nursery students had a wonderful day in school with special friends from Godong Ijo. They got to try some traditional games and meet interesting wildlife. These experiences, whether through thrilling learning journeys or special days with friends, are instrumental in nurturing a love for learning and forming lasting bonds. Cheers to more adventures and fun in the days to come!

On 17th October 2023, our Grade 1-6 students embarked on an exciting learning journey at Skyworld, Renewable Electricity Museum, and Batik Museum in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). Each grade level had a unique and enriching experience. The students cherished this exceptional opportunity for experiential learning outside the classroom. It was a day filled with fun, discovery, and hands-on experiences, providing valuable lessons that will stay with them for years to come.

During his final year at SIS-PIK, our Valedictorian Glenn Matthew entered the international John Locke Institute 2023 Global Essay Competition. We are delighted that Glenn had been selected - from 20,000 entries - to go to the finals of this prestigious competition and attend the awards ceremony at Oxford University in the UK. He describes attending the awards ceremony at the historic Sheldonian Theatre as ‘an unforgettable moment. Being present amidst the grandeur of the venue and sharing the stage with exceptional scholars was a surreal experience.’ Glenn was finally awarded a High Distinction in the Politics Category. We are so proud of his achievements.
