Learning at SIS-PIK

Learning at SIS-PIK

The curriculum of SIS-PIK provides students with the opportunities to take risks, ask questions, explore ideas, and develop their imaginations while engaging them through active learning and rigorous study. The environment at SIS-PIK is designed to promote a love of knowledge, appreciation of disciplinary expertise, and the motivation to reach high academic and personal objectives. In each division of the school, teachers build rich and inspiring learning experiences to help students participate in our changing world as future global citizens.

In Preschool and Primary we use the Singapore Curriculum

Aligned with the vision of the Singaporean Ministry of Education (MOE) is “Thinking Schools, Learning Nation”. To prepare a generation of thinking and committed citizens who are capable of contributing towards Asia’s continued growth and prosperity, Singapore is constantly revisiting its curriculum to ensure that the skills and knowledge taught in schools meet the challenges of the 21st century.  At SIS-PIK we aim to provide students with a holistic and broad-based education. We place importance on holistically nurturing students to become well-rounded persons – morally, intellectually, physically, socially and aesthetically through a set of eight core skills and values.

In Junior High, we use the Cambridge Curriculum

In Grade 9 students begin both Cambridge IGCSE and International BTEC courses, leading to internationally recognised qualifications.  As a department of the University of Cambridge, Cambridge provides educational programmes and exams in over 170 countries, offering global recognition with 160 years of expertise. Cambridge helps learners demonstrate and fulfil their potential. Together, we are shaping education and creating a confident future for learners. BTECs (Business, Technology and Enterprise Council) are British qualifications that have been around for 45 years. More details are below.

BTEC

We have a special programme available to students in Grades 9 to 12.  They are internationally recognised British qualifications available as alternatives to IGCSE and IB subjects.

They are vocational – training students to be ready for the real world of work. Therefore, instead of written examinations, students undertake simulations of real-life professional work and provide evidence for professional competencies.

Evidence is collected and accessed continually, and can be written and video based, which makes it ideal for students who benefit from coursework rather than examined assessment.

BTEC has been around for 35 years and is a very good way for students to get into university – over 100,000 UK students entered university last year with BTEC.

In our Senior High, we offer the IB Diploma Programme

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a two-year educational programme primarily aimed at 16-to-19-year-olds. The programme provides an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education and is recognized by many universities worldwide. Please read about our IB Diploma programme here

For students joining us in Grade 10 from non-IGCSE schools we also have a special Grade 10 programme, leading to 6 IGCSE and BTEC qualifications in one year, ready for IB or BTEC in Grade 11 & 12.

BTEC in Senior High Grades 11 & 12

We offer 5 BTEC choices in Grades 11 & 12: Applied Science, Creative Media, Sport, ESports and Enterprise & Entrepreneurship.  Students can mix and match IB courses with 1 or more of these, or take just three of the five BTEC choices. 3 BTECs give students a broad education base and is the same as taking 3 A  Levels – enough to gain entrance to university.

The SIS PEAK academic programme is unique in Indonesia, allowing students to take the IB Diploma, a mixture of IB courses and BTEC or a full suite of BTEC courses. It is a progressive  21st Century programme which suits each individual learner, whatever their strengths.
